Bruce Ellery

Bruce Ellery is the founder of Chelgrave Contracting and he has extensive experience   in the labour hire industry. Bruce is an electrician by trade and, though he first started working as a contractor, it wasn’t long before he moved on to supervisory and   then management roles. It is this ground-level knowledge and experience, combined with his strong work ethic and drive to succeed that gave Bruce a competitive advantage when he established Chelgrave in 1979. Bruce quickly positioned Chelgrave  as one of the premier suppliers of trades and related services in Australia, a reputation that has only grown and strengthened over the years. As Managing Director, Bruce is instrumental in shaping the reputation and direction of the company and he is still hands-on today.



Steven Ellery

Steven is a Fitter and Turner by trade and at the age of 19 became a professional Race Car Driver. Steven spent the next 13 years as one of the leaders of the Australian V8 Supercars Championship, highlighted by many achievements in the sport. During this time Steven also became a team owner and, as a result, an expert at not only managing and motivating a team, but also at working with the media, sponsors, corporate clients, etc. In 2007 Steven opened a local Horseland franchise, which he would own and manage for 7 years. Horseland is the largest equestrian retailer in the world and, as a franchisee, Steven learnt much about Management at the highest level. In 2014 Steven represented Australia in the World Rotax Max Championships in Spain, finishing 7th in the World.

Steven Joined Chelgrave in February 2015 and brings with him all of those years of leadership, knowledge, success, experience and drive.

Barry Mitchell

Barry has a long history in metal trades and thus offers a great deal of experience and knowledge in this field. Like most of Chelgrave’s management team, Barry also has a trades background, having worked as an electrician for twelve years before joining the labour hire industry in 1976. Since then, Barry has been appointed to a number of advisory, executive, and management roles within the labour hire industry, including: CoInvest Representative of Metal Trades Employers; Chairman of the Victorian Labour Hire Group; member of Incolink’s Fund No 2 Advisory Committee; and National General Manager of Chelgrave Contracting since 2001.

Mark Hale

Mark Hale is a Fitter and Turner by trade and has 30 years experience in the heavy machine maintenance industry, with extensive experience in maintenance planning, estimating and supervising maintenance services. In his role as General Manager, Mark manages all of Chelgrave’s Operations, and he also oversees all of the Shutdown services supplied to our clients.

Rob McGrillen

Rob McGrillen is Chelgrave’s Manager of Technical and Special Projects. In this role, Rob manages key account projects where Chelgrave provides core maintenance workforce, along with providing business development for new projects. Rob also sources technical professional staff for engineering, project management, drafting, planning, and administration roles.

As a qualified Instrument Technician, Rob brings years of experience in the engineering, maintenance, and construction sectors to his role with Chelgrave. Like all of Chelgrave’s management staff, Rob’s strong trades background gives him a clear understanding of a client’s needs.

Rob has a thorough understanding of Awards and related agreements, Industrial Relations and OH&S procedures, and combined with his extensive business development and financial planning experience, he is well placed to meet any client’s needs and expectations.

Systems Manager

John Wynne

John started with Chelgrave in 2011 as a WHS professional, managing Chelgrave’s Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality systems, as well as our corporate obligations and processes. A Toolmaker by trade, John has over 25 years combined WHS and Project Management experience in High Technology Manufacturing, Steel, Pulp and Paper, and Construction. John has extensive experience in developing management systems and integrating them into a change management cycle within many organisations. John’s valuable work experience is further enhanced by a Graduate Diploma in Engineering Management and a Graduate Diploma in Risk Management.

Westernport Manager

Leigh Dixon

Leigh is a fitter and turner by trade, and he has over 45 years experience in the maintenance and steel industries. Leigh joined Chelgrave in 1990 as a Mechanical Supervisor and he has extensive experience in Shutdown services, maintenance planning, estimating, and supervision. As our Westernport Manager, Leigh oversees all of Chelgrave’s operations at the Bluescope Steel plant in Hastings, Victoria.
